It comprises a range of stepped travertine terrace formations that has been created over thousands of years as flowing water from two mineral hot springs cooled and deposited carbonate minerals on the mountainside.
There are only three other sites in the world with the same conditions, But Badab-e Surt is a unique marvel due to its amazing color formation. If the light hits the terrace from the right angle, it makes the puddles glow with red, orange and yellow tones found in underlying rocks. Also the reflection of sky, clouds, sunrise and sunset creates a beautiful combination of colors you won’t find anywhere else in the world.
