Maymand is a very ancient village in the central district of Kerman province. The village is believed to be a primary human residence in the Iranian Plateau, dating back to 12,000 years ago. Evidence and objects found in the village and nearby area prove that history of Maymand goes back to at least 6000 years ago. Houses are carved into the stone and apart from some modern day building materials such as windows and doors everything else is made out of rock. The village was recognized as a UNESCO world heritage site in 2015.
